Tired of Seeing Unhealthy Food in Stores?

Posted by: Kimberly  /  Category: What's New

I AM! More than I could even explain to you!

I’m glad that we’re really starting to see manufacturers of food giving us alternative choices, not just low-cal options either.

tablesaltI mean for people who have limitations in their diet for Sodium and Salt intake, or whether they have high cholesterol, are obese or shouldn’t have sugar or refined flour and other ingredients, there are more choices out there.

Why am I being so “funny” about this?
I guess I’m being funny because 1 in 3 children are obese or overweight now in the USA. Probably because more people are dying of illnesses that could be “fixed” with food.

I eat a very healthy diet, and when I eat “packaged” or “processed” food, it is uncommon. I don’t put salt on my food or consume excess sodium, knowingly.

However, I just got rid of a kidney stone that was 3 mm – pretty darn big for them…

Yes, I know that the packaged food I do eat probably has some type of nutritional facts that I could have read.  Yes, you should always take responsibility for your own health and diet.

Although, when traveling, it is quite a bit more difficult to eat in a healthy way, especially eating out…You don’t really know what they put in or how much, or what preservatives or what have you.

Now, I must become an expert on salt – in all shapes and forms – that I am ingesting or might ingest.

High salt intake can cause a number of health problems, such as hypertension, kidney and gall stones, risk of stomach cancer and a whole host of other issues.

However, low salt intake can cause just as many problems, if you don’t get enough of it, as it is an essential mineral for your body to function properly.

* For more information on the policy paper that The Grocery Manufacturers Association just released on salt and sodium in our food – it’s all about what salt is, why it’s important, why it’s bad, why it’s used, how it’s used, labeling issues and everything in between!

The thing is, we fund the industry…We, as a nation, are eating these unhealthy foods…

If food manufacturers were making money feeding us healthy food, they would make more of it…However,t he vast majority of sales are from the full salt, full flavor, full preservatives, full fat foods that we can’t wait to consume on a regular basis.

Be an informed consumer and an advocate for your own health – Without your health, you have no life.

TV Commercials Have Gone Too Far in Canada

Posted by: Kimberly  /  Category: What's New

Sharp Electronics AQUOS LC-37D44U LCD 37Okay…let me tell you that in Canada, more so than in the USA, when commercials come on, they are louder.

They’ve been doing that forever, but now, the volume of the commercials is ridiculously loud.

It is so much louder than the show that you are forced to turn down or even mute the TV when the commercials are on.

If you reduce the volume, then you often miss the first few seconds when the show you’re watching comes back on again.

It’s an on-again, off-again thing, idiotic cycle and it’s getting REALLY annoying.

The reason they increase the volume during commercials is because the Read more…

Looking for Glamor? Go with Diamonds!

Posted by: Kimberly  /  Category: Fashion

Recently, I wrote an article on tips for guys to buy jewelry for their sweetheart on Valentine’s Day and other occasions, and now I wish I would have added some more information.

woman and jewelleryHonestly guys, if your girl is somewhat of a glamorous lady, then go for the diamonds boys!

I know, I know…you’re freaking out about the cost of them.

Well, I’ve got a tip for you!

More often than not, you can buy loose diamonds and get it set for much less than what you could buy a finished piece of jewelry at a store for.

Why?
Because you just took out another “middle man”.

The stone you get should be finished and no matter what you have it set in, the stone will not change.

Just be sure to get good quality and follow the 4 Cs of diamonds – color, clarity, carat weight and cut.

Make certain you get what you want or there would have been no point to this whole ordeal…

But, you may get more bang for your buck, especially when it comes to an engagement ring!

…And Girls…Who says we have to wait for a man to buy us a diamond? Just do it for yourself!

Don’t forget the old saying…”Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend”!

Be a Torchbearer for the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olypmics

Posted by: Kimberly  /  Category: Life, Neat Stuff, Sports, What's New

I just found out about this today and it is pretty cool…

olympicflameIf you’re a teenager and you’re interested in becoming a torchbearer for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games, check out this website I found: SOGO Active

This program is presented by Coca-Cola and they will award over 1,000 spots to be torchbearer before the torch is lit at the Winter Olympics.

A torchbearer is a person that carries the torch the Olympic flame, typically from one end of the country to the other, to where the Olympics are being held.

These spots will be awarded to teens who join the SOGO Active program and demonstrate the commitment of adopting a lifestyle that is active and healthy.

20 of the spots will be awarded to teens/youth who are affiliated with the Halifax-based Halifax Active Communities. Halifax is so important, as this is where the first community organization in Nova Scotia to host the SOGO Active Program.

I’ve seen the Olympic flame being carried, I guess it must have been for the Calgary Winter Olympics, and everyone gathers in front of their houses and cheers the torchbearer on. We have photos of it…Looks like I’m about 10 years old or so. It’s such an honor! I wish I could carry it!

So, get over to SOGOActive.com and sign up! Once you’re there, you can design your own program to be active. It’s a really neat site…You get a profile you get to create, design, change and control!

sogoactive

Get out there and get active!
