I read a neat post today @: How to Deal with the Swear Jar

I found it from the “Dessert Course” of the Blog Carnival we’re hosting on BlogNButter.com:

Welcome to Dessert – “Soup to Nuts 3” Progressive Dinner Blog Carnival

Basically, to make a long story shorter, a family is trying to figure out how to use the funds from the family “swear jar” that has accumulated a small fortune now…LOL…

While they were going to donate it to a charity they all agreed on, they wondered if this would be encouraging the swearing behavior as the giving feels good for this worthy cause…

Then, they outline a number of different options, which they wanted us to comment on, one of which even included giving the funds to an organization they don’t agree with, like the Nazi Movement…Yikes!

I actually left a lengthy comment afterward and thought it would be a great post for my readers here @ Through the Eyes of Kimberly Edwards!

Please let us know what you think they should or could do with the money…Any fabulous ideas?

Check out my opinion:

“Well, the root of the issue here is the desire to swear…Obviously, just giving up $1 or 50 cents is not enough of a punishment for the swearing in the first place.

Now, you are trying to find another reason not to swear after the first one didn’t do the trick, so to speak.

I certainly do not condone donating the money to an organization that you find questionable or that you do not support…That is just backwards humanity…

The idea to donate it to something worthwhile is great, or to someone in desperate need…(LOL…like the ExoticAnimalLover.com Animal Refuge Project…LOL)…

I, however, have always been a fan of sewing it back into your family, either your direct family or your extended family.

So many people send money all over the world (not that that’s not an amazing and selfless thing in itself and is necessary too), but we too often forget our brother or sister that’s struggling to put food on the table for their children, or our cousin that is trying to go back to school, or our neighbor that may be foreclosing on their home…

If you look around, directly in your own vicinity or family, surely, there are people in need right before your eyes…

Hope this helps…and thank you for the submission of this article in Blog Carnival!
