Okay, between everyone in our household, we’ve been doing quite a bit of traveling lately…

The luggage we’ve been using has either been destroyed, as it was obviously of poor quality, or we can use those oldies, but goodies in the basement that have been around since the 1970s…Funny, they don’t make things like they used to.

Those oldies may not be cute anymore, but they sure are durable, right?

Well, if you don’t want to bring out your dad’s old suitcase from “the good old days“, you’ll probably want to look at getting new luggage.

What’s New In Luggage?
Well, there are pieces that are of all different sizes, shapes, colors, patterns and textures. I thought I especially liked those hard-sided suitcases, but as I’ve been traveling and seeing them in baggage claim, I’ve seen a few that have been cracked or broken. Not cool!

Yes, many of the “beautiful” pieces, with patent leather looks, cool patterns and wild colors, are often just too flimsy. How will those suitcases look after you pick them up post-flight? Are they washable? Will the nicks and scuffs come off?

What Do I Suggest Then?
We recently went shopping for luggage for my mother’s trip to California. She, of course, wanted that patent leather/alligator pattern set, but no dice…Not durable enough, and the carry-on bags did not have wheels. That was a No-Go!

So, I suggest to get a luggage set that not only has wheels, for sure, but also has a durable material that it is covered with. We went with a pretty turquoise colored, semi-hard vinyl set that satisfied my mother’s style requirements, had wheels, and large zippers. It is very similar to this set here: CalPak Dimple Expandable Luggage Set

The vinyl is easy to clean with a wet wash cloth or a Magic Eraser.

Large zippers are also important because they hold better, work easier and are easier to use for people with arthritis.

For more great information on what to look for when buying luggage, check out ShopWiki’s Luggage Buying Guide.

It is also important to know how many pieces of luggage you will be allowed to carry on your flight and what the flight policies are on carry-ons. Here is an awesome list to check out for Domestic Carry-On Policies.

You may see that I have been using ShopWiki as my shopping search engine…I just find it so easy to find things…

Want to know what I think is the coolest thing on the search engine?
You know when you go to the store, and forget the brand name of the product you want to buy, but remember it was in a blue box or a pink bag?

Or…do you know you’ll be looking for turquoise luggage or a white dress? They have a sliding color chart…Yeah…I’ve never seen that before!

Pretty helpful if you are looking up something very specific. You won’t have to sift through brown and black luggage…Super neat! Of course, I found it while I was “stumbling” around online…LOL…
