Lifeguards Can Be Stylish Too

Posted by: Kimberly  /  Category: Fashion, Sports, What's New

Don’t be stuck in a rut with your life-guard uniform!

There are so many styles and options available out there that are all acceptable Lifeguard Swimwear.

menslifeguardtrunksPersonally, I think as a male lifeguard, you’re much more limited on what you can wear and still be stylish.

I mean, let’s be real – Please don’t wear a speedo if you don’t have to!

lifeguardbikiniHowever, for a woman, Lifeguard Swimsuits can be more exciting when it comes to shapes of the suits.

There are bikinis, tankinis, one pieces, different colors, different piping, thick and thin straps, etc. Shoot, you can even wear board shorts, I believe.

Not only can do lifeguards style & profile with their Swimwear, but also with other items, like cover ups, t-shirts, long sleeves, swim parkas and their cool whistles…LOL

Anyway, be safe, be cool and look good out there lifeguards!

Thunderstorms Stopped our Sand Volleyball Playing

Posted by: Kimberly  /  Category: Sports, What's New

Okay, so we were serious troopers on Saturday here in Dallas.

Baden Sand Shark Outdoor VolleyballWe trudged out to Coppell’s Yucatan Sand Volleyball to get our game on despite heavy-laden skies of grey!

Kenney, Aaron and I were peppering before playing and within about 15 minutes or so, it went from slight sprinkles that we could handle to torrential downpours.

The court next to Kenney and me just finished their game point when it happened…

We ran to get all of our gear and clothes to find shelter in the building.

However, we only made it so far as the outdoor bar, which was unattended…LOL

Get Fit and Make a Difference for Breast Cancer

Posted by: Kimberly  /  Category: Life, Sports, What's New

Now that I psyched you all up with the last 3 posts on how to become a fitness model, you’re all getting fit, I presume…

Why not get fit, log the miles or the time you work out and use your mileage or calories as a way to donate to Breast Cancer?

You’re saying, “Wait…What?”

1. Go sign up at BeeWell Miles .

2. All you have to do is log how far you walked, jogged, ran or enter the times you played or participated in any other activity every day between now and October 31st, 2009.

3. Bumble Bee Foods (you know, the people that bring you some of the best Albacore tuna out there!) will donate 15ยข for every mile you log to the Breast Cancer Network of Strength up to $200,000.

walkingbeewellmiles

So, the more you walk, run, jog or get fit, the more you’ll help those who need help and need a cure for Breast Cancer quicker!

Why Do I Care?
My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in April of 2006. She underwent 2 surgeries, chemotherapy, radiation and a preventative treatment for 1 yr after all of that.

So far, she is a 3 year cancer survivor – Praise God! That’s a real blessing.

However, we know a number of people, some even related to us, that were not so fortunate with Breast Cancer.

Many of you know I participate every year in some kind of Breast Cancer fundraiser…Now, you know why!

Please, while you’re already working out or even if you needed a good reason to get fit, let this be that reason.

Register, log your miles every day until the end of October, and let’s make a real difference to real people out there that need it!!!

I got myself a pedometer so that I could log all the miles I put in. You don’t really need one…You can even map your routes on BeeWellMiles.com for accurate distances you can log…

I only got to log 1.5 miles today, as I worked all day from home… :( But that will be changing very quickly!

You can also use the Bee Well Miles website to log your meals and calorie intake, interact with healthy living experts, and check out other guests/users and become friends and share tips.

Oh yeah, if that wasn’t enough, every day you log your miles or game codes from the pink cans of Bumble Bee Tuna you have, you could instantly win one of 15,000 prizes!!! Awesome!

How to Become a Fitness Model – Part #2

Posted by: Kimberly  /  Category: Fashion, Modeling, Sports, Tips, What's New

This is a 3 Part Series – So, please be sure to check out Part #1 and Part #3 too!

model in grey bikiniYou’re In Shape – Now What?
Start looking in fitness and bodybuilding mags and pic out some shots you think are nice and would suit you.

Then, search for a really good photographer.

NOT JUST ANY PHOTOGRAPHER because it’ll cost you more in the long run if you go with a half-rate photographer that clicks 200 pictures in 20 minutes…This is not going to work!

Photo right: Kimberly Edwards – photo by Zdenka Micka – Make-Up & Hair by Kimberly Edwards – Oshawa, Ontario

The pics may cost you between $500-$1000 to get done. It would even be worth a plane ticket – round trip of $250 – to be sure you get a photographer that can make your photos look like the ones you chose from the magazines you’ve been researching!

For example, in the Toronto area: Zdenka Micka (choosy with who she will work with) or Ryan Thomas (I haven’t shot with as of yet, but like what I see) are great choices.

*** Be sure you told them Kimberly Edwards sent you – it will work in your favor! ***

You can even look at the credits in those fitness mags and see if you can’t contact one of those photographers and tell them how you like their work…See if they’d be willing to work with you, sending them a few photos of what you look like now…do the best you can with some digital body photos…

How to Become a Fitness Model – Part #1

Posted by: Kimberly  /  Category: Beauty Tips, Look Great, Modeling, Sports, What's New

A bunch of my friends have started to ask me the question of how they can get into fitness modeling…

So, I figured they are a good cross section, especially of my readers here, and I wanted to share my answer that I’ve been “copying and pasting” to my friends as they contact me…

This is a 3 Part Series – So, please be sure to check out Part #2 and Part #3 too!

female boxerThey often ask me if I’m a fitness model – I guess because they know I work out all the time, eat healthy and model too, but I wouldn’t even really label myself a total “fitness model” per se…

Photo left: Kimberly Edwards – photo by Zdenka Micka – Make-Up & Hair by Kimberly Edwards – Oshawa, Ontario

There is a huge industry in fitness modeling right now.

Why?
People are trying to be healthier…They’re working out more, eating healthier and are simply more aware of their bodies and fitness. So, why not make your efforts worth something, right?

To Tattoo or Not to Tattoo – That is the question:
Although I’m really not into tattoos and don’t have any myself, many people nowadays do, including my dear hubby…So, what’s the skinny?

Tattoos are still “in”, so you could get some work in the fitness industry even with them – especially with specialty industries (have you seen the “Suicide Girls” tatted up with piercings?)

However, there are a number of ways to cover tattoos up too, if you so desire in competitions or anything like that…everyone does it…LOL…So, don’t let that stop you.

My cousin also had a few tattoos removed with laser and you can’t even tell they were there…

If laser removal is too expensive or you’re afraid it’s going to hurt, check Read more…

Be a Torchbearer for the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olypmics

Posted by: Kimberly  /  Category: Life, Neat Stuff, Sports, What's New

I just found out about this today and it is pretty cool…

olympicflameIf you’re a teenager and you’re interested in becoming a torchbearer for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games, check out this website I found: SOGO Active

This program is presented by Coca-Cola and they will award over 1,000 spots to be torchbearer before the torch is lit at the Winter Olympics.

A torchbearer is a person that carries the torch the Olympic flame, typically from one end of the country to the other, to where the Olympics are being held.

These spots will be awarded to teens who join the SOGO Active program and demonstrate the commitment of adopting a lifestyle that is active and healthy.

20 of the spots will be awarded to teens/youth who are affiliated with the Halifax-based Halifax Active Communities. Halifax is so important, as this is where the first community organization in Nova Scotia to host the SOGO Active Program.

I’ve seen the Olympic flame being carried, I guess it must have been for the Calgary Winter Olympics, and everyone gathers in front of their houses and cheers the torchbearer on. We have photos of it…Looks like I’m about 10 years old or so. It’s such an honor! I wish I could carry it!

So, get over to SOGOActive.com and sign up! Once you’re there, you can design your own program to be active. It’s a really neat site…You get a profile you get to create, design, change and control!

Get out there and get active!

I’m Going to Run 5 km in the BRIGHT Breast Cancer Run

Posted by: Kimberly  /  Category: Life, Sports, What's New

That’s right! I’m going to do it Saturday, September 6th!

I’m going to put a little effort and sweat into raising some money for Breast Cancer Research in Hamilton.

Every little bit helps!

The Juravinski Cancer Centre’s Breast Disease Site Team hosts the inaugural Bright Run/Walk to support breast cancer research in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.

BRIGHT stands for Breast Cancer Research in Greater Hamilton Today and underscores the commitment the JCC’s Breast Disease Site Team has to its patients through treatment and leading-edge research. In fact, the JCC is home to many renowned researchers whose work in clinical trials and health services research has improved and advanced the treatment of breast cancer patients locally, nationally and around the world.

BRIGHT Run participants will have the option of walking or running along the beautiful Rail Trail. Walkers can choose a 1km or 5km route and runners can choose a 5km or 10km route. There will also be many activities at the Trail Centre for participants of all ages to enjoy. Best of all, proceeds from the BRIGHT Run will benefit the JCC’s Breast Cancer Research Program.

All monies raised will stay in Hamilton and be used specifically at the Juravinski Regional Cancer Centre for breast cancer research. None of the funds will go into the Toronto program. Also – all radiation treatments for the Niagara area is done at JCC.

The Reason I’m Running
My Mother is a 2 1/2 yr breast cancer survivor, and was treated in Hamilton with radiation. I am so very blessed to have my mother still with us, as we know all too well how serious cancer can be, as we lost my father to a rare cancer, the same week we found out mom’s diagnosis.

Norweigian Bicycle Lift

Posted by: Kimberly  /  Category: Life, Neat Stuff, Sports

What a great idea is that? Wow…must be unrelenting when riding bikes in the mountainous terrain of the villages…LOL…

Some people may see this as lazy, and maybe they’ve never ridden a bike up a huge hill before that seemingly doesn’t end…

I could see how these hills may discourage more people from going out to exercise…These lifts may actually get more people into fitness that otherwise would not be interested.

Anyway…I thought this was one of the coolest things I’ve seen. I also love how creative the residents of this community are, especially when riding the lift up with their baby carriages…

Check it out here: Bicycle life in Norway

Jogging Clears The Mind

Posted by: Kimberly  /  Category: Sports, Tips

Especially when I get stressed out, I crave going for a jog.

I can see the trees go by, smell the lilacs as I jog past, and get some fresh air. It’s just you and the road with your thoughts…

If you don’t feel like thinking, it’s easy to be distracted by everything going on around you.

When you feel frustrated and like you can’t get anywhere in your thoughts, going for a jog gives you a feeling of accomplishment…

My biggest piece of advice:

Make sure you’re wearing good shoes for jogging…Otherwise, you can cause yourself a lot of grief with your joints, especially your knees (in my case).

I thought I had some great shoes that I was wearing for the past few weeks, but my knee started hurting more and more as the days go on.

I switched my shoes out today to a different brand, my older ones, and I was able to jog for about 40 min today! Yeahhh! My limiting factor was my knee, not me being tired…

Well, just wanted to share my advice!

P.S. These are the shoes that I prefer to wear when jogging, except mine are purple…They really cushion my heels, as I’ve had heel problems in the past, and they alleviate the pain in my knees…Check ‘em out for yourself:
